We need your help ...

Unlike many news outlets, EdSource does not secure its content behind a paywall. We believe that informing the largest possible audience about what is working in education — and what isn't — is far more important.

Once a year, however, we ask our readers to contribute as generously as they can so that we can do justice to reporting on a topic as vast and complex as California's education system — from early education to postsecondary success.

Thanks to support from several philanthropic foundations, EdSource is participating in NewsMatch. As a result, your tax-deductible gift to EdSource will be worth three times as much to us — and allow us to do more hard hitting, high-impact reporting that makes a difference. Don’t wait. Polio was eliminated from the USA with a 70% vaccine rate, and there have not been any cases here for 25 years.
After four doses of pertussis vaccine any additional dose offers only one year of protection, plus makes you more likely to catch pertussis.
Japan banned the measles vaccine made from aborted fetal cells, and produces their own much safer version.
This modern T4 program has nothing to do with public health, it is all about profit for pharma.

Aren’t California schools legally excluding children who aren’t vaccinated?

The red dots mean that parents are questioning the bull coming from pharma and untrained docs. The legislation process in totally one-sided . We will homeschool or move if SB276 passes. Red dots mean informed and questioning parents. You can easily opt out of vax for school in 44 states. California is owned by pharma.

Maybe more parents would get their kids vaccinated if the state of CA gave indemnity insurance with the shots. After his first “baby shots”, my first baby had seizures and suffered life-long brain damage. It doesn’t happen often; but one innocent, previously-healthy child is too much.

So much for freedom of choice. If I don’t vaccinate my child and you do, your child should not be at risk.

Hi, I am actually a Trustee for Novato Unified School District. I was curious about vaccination rates and noticed only two of our several schools are posted. Can you tell me why?

I believe the title (or legend) is reversed? Aren’t the red dots schools where LESS than 50% of kindergarteners ARE starting school WITH vaccinations?

Jennifer, yes, you’re right with your interpretation: it is MORE than 50% without vaccinations at the schools coded red in the map (or alternately, LESS than 50% vaccinated). We’ll revise the legend to make sure it isn’t confusing.
