The California Department of Education today awarded 39 grants, totaling $250 million, to schools working to connect students with hands-on career experiences on the way to graduation.

The grants came from a newly established fund called the California Career Pathways Trust, which supplies schools and their community partners with the funds necessary to develop successful career track programs for high school students.

“By demonstrating the relevance of students’ education, these programs not only encourage kids to stay in school, but also combine the rigorous academics and practical experience employers say they need,” said State Superintendent of Public Schools Tom Torlakson in a statement.

Winners from across the state proposed or are working to expand programs to prepare students for careers in fields as varied as engineering, health care and agriculture. Here’s a complete list of the winners:

  • Contra Costa County Office of Education.
  • Long Beach Community College District.
  • Los Angeles Unified School District.
  • Orange County Department of Education.
  • Paramount Academy.
  • Pasadena Area Community College District.
  • Peralta Community College District.
  • Sacramento County Office of Education.
  • Sonoma County Office of Education.
  • Tulare County Office of Education.
  • Ventura County Community College District.
  • Victor Valley Community College District.
Up to $6 million grant category
  • Antelope Valley College District.
  • Butte-Glenn Community College District.
  • Elk Grove Unified School District.
  • Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
  • Glendale Unified School District.
  • John Muir Charter School.
  • Konocti Unified School District.
  • Long Beach Unified School District.
  • Los Angeles County Office of Education.
  • Montebello Unified School District.
  • Oxnard Union High School District.
  • Rancho Santiago Community College District.
  • Vallejo City Unified School District.
