Student sues Claremont Unified, alleging district didn’t protect him from assault

A former student at El Roble Intermediate School in the Claremont Unified School District has sued the district, alleging it didn’t do enough to protect him when he was physically assaulted by another student, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The student alleged in a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court that he was attacked and bullied three separate times this year and that district and school staff knew the attacker had a history of violence, according to the Times.

The former student’s attorney, Raymond Babaian, told the Times that what the student suffered “will leave a scar for the remainder of his life.” The student’s parents withdrew him from the school as a result of the attacks, the Times reported, citing the complaint.

“What makes it worse is that this particular school was on notice of an ongoing pattern of similar actions, yet nothing was done to prevent it,” Babaian added.
