Lake Elsinore boy dies after being told to run during heat wave as punishment for not being dressed for gym

Canyon Lake Middle School student Yahshua Robinson, 12, died Tuesday after collapsing in PE class during a heat wave in Lake Elsinore, Los Angeles Times reported.

In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Robinson’s aunt Amarna Plummer said her nephew wasn’t dressed appropriately for gym class and was told to run despite the triple-digit heat.

Robinson told the teacher that he needed some water and couldn’t breathe, Plummer said. Robinson collapsed and was taken to a hospital where he later died. On a GoFundMe page raising money for Robinson’s parents, Plummer wrote that he died from cardiac arrest.

Robinson’s official cause of death is still pending, according to the Times.
