This week, Louis and John discuss where students spend a lot of time outside of the classroom:  on playgrounds – and efforts to make them more welcoming and accessible to all children. The podcast was inspired by an interview conducted by EdSource’s Erin Brownfield with Olenka Villarreal, the mother of a child with disabilities and founder of the Magical Bridge Foundation. She worked for seven years with the city of Palo Alto to open what may well one of the first fully inclusive playgrounds in the nation

Brentwood Union School District is also reconstructing all of its playgrounds to go well beyond what the Americans with Disabilities Act requires. Superintendent Dana Eaton discusses the effort – and why it’s so important.
