Kenya Abner and her husband struggled to find student housing for their family. Twenty years later, their daughter ran into the same problem.

Student housing is so scarce in California that tens of thousands of students are left without stable places to live. To tackle that shortage, experts say college leaders must try new and innovative solutions.
