White House offers billions to make schools greener

The White House is offering billions of dollars to help schools make ecological changes, to help save energy and emit less pollution.

As reported by NPR, Vice President Kamala Harris announced the push earlier this month.

It includes funding to upgrade heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, replace diesel-fueled school buses, install LED lights, better insulation, and solar panels, and to plan routes for students to walk or bike to school.

Most of these innovations could also save schools money in the long run.

“In most school districts, the second-largest yearly expense after salaries is the energy bill,” Harris said in her speech.
