Sacramento teacher who was fired after attending Jan. 6 Trump rally sues district

A teacher who the Sacramento City School District fired after learning he attended a Washington rally prior to the Jan. 6 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is suing the district, the Sacramento Bee reported.

“Dustin Watson, a physical education teacher at New Technology High School, acknowledges in the lawsuit that he attended the rally for supporters of former President Donald Trump,” the Bee reported.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Watson claims the district violated his constitutional rights by firing him.

Watson is seeking relief and damages for loss of pay and denial of employment benefits. He was in the process of completing his teaching credential but was unable to receive it because he was terminated. It’s unclear whether Watson is currently employed at another school, The Bee reported.
