Los Angeles Unified hit with cyberattack

Los Angeles Unified was targeted by a cyberattack over the weekend, causing the district’s website and email systems to go offline, officials said.

“Los Angeles Unified detected unusual activity in its Information Technology systems over the weekend, which after initial review, can be confirmed as an external cyber attack on our Information Technology assets,” the district said in a statement.

The attack also impacted the ability of teachers to post lessons and take attendance, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The district said the attack was likely criminal in nature and is working with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to investigate it.
