With eight weeks to go before the start of classes, Calbright College faces questions on whether it will be ready.
Its new president says it plans to launch online and job training for 400 students.
The name Calbright was chosen to provide "a sense of aspiration and place" for the school that combines online and workplace learning.
Since the new school is not only online, its name is changing. "Calbright College" seeks to evoke California and a better future.
Very different from traditional community colleges, it targets 8 million underemployed Californians and aims to be tuition-free.
