Study: Less help offered for minority very-low-birth-weight babies
About 20 percent of very-low-birth weight babies were not referred to a high-risk follow-up program in 2010 and 2011, according to a Stanford University School of Medicine study. Larger healthier babies, those born in smaller neonatal units, and African-American and Hispanic babies were less likely to be referred.

New state data show a steep drop in suspensions and expulsions of California students, continuing a downward trend. Altogether, 20 percent fewer students were expelled and 15 percent fewer students were suspended in 2013-14 than in the previous year.
