During a meeting of Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance on February 14, Assemblymember Jose Medina, D-Riverside, discussed EdSource’s investigation into the working conditions of adjunct faculty members at California’s community colleges. Medina raised concerns about a number of issues spotlighted in the investigation, including lack of benefits for part-time faculty and little to no pay for time spent working outside the classroom.
“Being a part-time faculty member in the California community college, it is a rough road with no or very little office hours, no opportunity to meet with students. And as the article points out, sometimes not even having the respect of other faculty members at their own institutions,” Medina said. “I very much support the governor’s proposal for part-time health insurance because they, and especially those part-time faculty who have to go from one community college to another, have a very difficult time in getting health insurance.”

Thank you for you coverage re part-time faculty at the community colleges.
I suggest a follow-up:
Salary comparisons (Transparent California reports that many full-timers make as much as $250,000 per year.)
Many fulltimers teach overtime at the expense of part timers.
Many fulltimers also teach as part-timers at other community colleges.
There is no limitation on how many classes or hours fulltimers teach.
Only part timers are limited.
