Chronic absenteeism is now featured prominently on the California School Dashboard, the state’s color-coded report card for districts and individual schools. A student is defined as chronically absent if he or she misses 10 percent of the school year for any reason — through excused or unexcused absences, or suspension.
The database below shows absenteeism rates for all California schools during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years. For 2017-18, the rates are broken down by grade level. To find an individual school, type the name or a portion of the name in the box below.
If a field is blank, that indicates that there were 10 or fewer students in a school or program (a continuation school, for example) or in a particular category or subcategory.
