Cheating increased at UC San Diego during distance learning, survey says

Students at the University of California, San Diego were much more likely to cheat during online classes last year, according to a survey of faculty, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

According to the newspaper, 28% of respondents said cheating was “much higher” than in traditional in-person classes, and another 32% responded that cheating was “higher.”

Additionally, 44% of respondents at the campus said in the same survey that undergraduate students came away from online learning with a “lower” understanding of course material, and another 10% said those students had a “much lower understanding,” the Union-Tribune reported.

UC San Diego is on the quarter system and fall classes are set to begin at the campus later this week. Most courses will be held in person.
